School Gets Grant for Computer Center

Rose Avenue Elementary School has received a $24,390 grant to establish a technology training center on the campus.

The grant, given to the Oxnard Elementary School District Educational Foundation by Oracle Corp., will also finance at least 20 hours of computer skills training for each Rose Avenue teacher.

“The money is sure to become a great benefit to us,” Principal Joe Ortiz said, citing the importance of integrating computer technology into traditional course work.

Computers now complement the teaching of most subjects, Ortiz said.

In addition to teacher training, the center will provide evening classes in computer literacy for Rose Avenue parents and Oxnard school district staff.

The school district’s educational foundation was established in 1983 to accept donations and raise money for Oxnard schools.

It was selected by Oracle Corp. to receive a donation from the company’s Corporate Giving and Volunteer Program, which helps fund math, science and technology programs for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
