The Northridge Corp. is expected to vote Monday on whether to loan $586,000 to Cal State Northridge for the reinstatement of baseball and men’s volleyball at the school.
Northridge administrators asked for the loan at a meeting of the corporation’s board of directors July 24.
The corporation, which operates commercial facilities on campus, already is contributing $500,000 to Northridge athletics for 1997-98.
The loan amount matches funds allocated for Northridge’s athletic department that were proposed by state Sen. Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley) in an amendment to the state budget. The bailout was approved July 2 but the state budget is stalled in the Legislature.
Ronald Kopita, Northridge’s vice president of student affairs, has said that the school would repay the loan with the funds from the state.
