Turnley Walker, 84, author and award-winning book reviewer for children. He was a polio sufferer whose books “Rise Up and Walk” and “Roosevelt and the Warm Springs Story” dramatized how one copes with a crippling disease. Later, he won the Peabody Award for his PBS book review presentations “Turnley Walker on Books.” His “Books Alive” reading programs, a series of book reviews on audio cassettes, were used by the Los Angeles Unified School District and other districts throughout the country. On Friday at home in Sherman Oaks of heart failure.
