Interim Chief Appointed Head of Zoo Department
- Share via
Mayor Richard Riordan nominated Manuel Mollinedo on Tuesday to be the first general manager of the recently created Zoo Department.
The East Los Angeles native has served as interim chief at the Los Angeles Zoo for the last two years, a period during which the agency was split off from the Department of Recreation and Parks.
Riordan credited Mollinedo with improving management, correcting U.S. Agriculture Department citations, getting the Griffith Park zoo reaccredited and overseeing the construction of the $5.5-million chimpanzee exhibit.
Mollinedo’s appointment is subject to City Council approval.
