Fire Hits Chemical Plant

NEW ORLEANS — A fire broke out at a chemical plant across the Mississippi River from the historic French Quarter in suburban New Orleans on Wednesday, injuring one person, officials said. Shipping traffic along the river was halted briefly while firefighters battled the blaze at a Witco Corp. plant in Gretna, La. Flames shot 100 feet into the air, officials said.
