Shoes Sought to Help Homeless and Needy
A shoe drive for the homeless and needy, held today and Sunday, can give new life to old tennis shoes, pumps, sandals, oxfords, wingtips and kids shoes.
Organizers expect the drive to gather about 1,000 shoes and many canned goods for donation to Care and Share and the Samaritan Center in Simi Valley, said John Spotts, general manager of Jack’s Shoes, which is hosting the event.
“I’ve had hundreds of calls already, people asking, ‘How many pairs can I bring?’ [and] ‘Do you care if they’re children’s shoes?’ ” Spotts said.
The answers: Any usable shoes are welcome.
The drive coincides with the “An Affair on Valley Fair” street festival, which will take place 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The event will include music, games, vendors, a police dog demonstration and pony rides.
Shoe donations will be accepted at Jack’s Shoes, 4364 Valley Fair St.
