Central Bank Probes Links to Nazi Gold

Canada’s central bank is investigating claims that it laundered more than 6 tons of looted Nazi gold during World War II, bank officials confirmed. A U.S. intelligence document released last week said Portugal used the Swiss National Bank to swap 20 tons of looted Nazi gold for gold held in the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank and the Bank of Canada. Other intelligence documents said Portugal bought another 2 tons of gold from the Swiss through Canada and used the Bank of Canada to ship it to Sweden, Canadian Jewish Congress spokesman Bernie Farber said.
