Gilroy Area Struck by 4.1 Earthquake

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake occurred Thursday in the vicinity of the Sargent fault three miles southwest of the Central California town of Gilroy, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The moderate temblor, at 12:46 p.m., caused neither damage nor injuries.
The area has been the site of frequent quakes, with a 6.2 in 1984 and a 5.9 in 1979. It was also severely shaken by the 6.9 Loma Prieta quake of 1989.
