City officials celebrated the opening of a state-of-the-art ground water treatment plant Friday.
Recognized for its outstanding architecture, the gleaming white plant at Redondo Avenue and Spring Street treats water pumped from 25 wells and supplies nearly half of the city’s water.
“Fifty years from now this building is still going to look remarkable,” said Bob Cole, general manager of the Long Beach Water District. “This is the premier water treatment plant in the nation.”
“Nothing is more important to the health and well-being of our residents than clean water,” said Long Beach Mayor Beverly O’Neill.
