ANAHEIM — Loara’s offense was efficient in a 42-21 victory over Cypress in an Empire League game Friday night at Western High School.
Of the six touchdown drives for the Saxons (6-3, 3-1), none lasted more than three plays, with three consisting of just one play. Loara broke the game open with 28 points in the second half.
“I thought the game would be a lot closer,” Loara Coach John deFries said. “Cypress played us very tough, but our quarterback played a great game.”
Saxon quarterback Michael Morales ran for three touchdown and passed for one. He accounted for 234 of Loara’s 440 yards in total offense.
Andy Guajardo got the Saxons rolling with an 80-yard touchdown run with 3 minutes 36 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Morales scored the first of three touchdowns with a 21-yard run with 39 seconds left in the first quarter.
Loara, which had a seven-point lead at halftime, added to it with two Morales touchdowns in less than a minute. Guajardo later threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Johnny Patton.
Cypress (3-6, 1-3) had 377 yards in offense, as quarterback Jeff Crooks passed for one touchdown and ran for one.
