Daily Completes Term as Mayor

Mayor Stan Daily is expected to turn the gavel over to Charlotte Craven today after serving his last day in the one-year position.

For the last eight years, the Camarillo City Council has rotated the vice mayor into the mayor position and has rotated a council member with the most votes or the longest amount of time on the council into the vice mayor position.

“The rotation keeps ill will out and makes for a united council,” said Daily, who served on the city’s first council in 1964 until 1976 and returned in 1990.

Daily has served on the council 19 years, six of them as mayor. He considers the opening of the Camarillo Premium Outlet Center as his greatest accomplishment.

“By doing that, we have tacked down our financial security for the future of Camarillo,” Daily said. “That has been one of my long-term goals since I first came into office.”

Daily says he also has created a rapport between the city and the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce that had not existed before he took office.

“They were at odds,” Daily said. “And the culmination of this is that the city joined the chamber during my watch.”

Daily, who will serve the rest of his term as council member, said he has not decided whether he will run for reelection in November 1998.

If the gavel does indeed pass to Craven, she will be the first woman on the Camarillo City Council to serve as mayor more than twice.
