An Orange County man who allegedly molested a 5-year-old girl at a Ventura thrift store last weekend was assigned a public defender Tuesday but declined to enter a plea to criminal charges.
Brian Anthony Krips, 38, who is a registered sex offender, requested a postponement of his scheduled arraignment. A court hearing is set for Dec. 9.
Ventura police arrested Krips after the 5-year-old told her mother that she had been fondled.
Krips allegedly offered the girl a puzzle in the toy section of the Retarded Children’s Thrift Store in downtown Ventura while her mother and brothers were not watching.
Krips was arrested at a second thrift store after the child identified him from across the street, police said.
Authorities suspect that another child may have been molested about the same time Saturday and are encouraging anyone with information to call 339-4400.
