Costa Mesa’s Gomez Reinstated

Costa Mesa’s Zoila Gomez, who was declared ineligible Monday by the Southern Section for violating the eight-semester rule, was reinstated Friday, according to Coach Joe Busi.
The Mustangs still will forfeit three Pacific Coast League victories, but the ruling allows Gomez to compete in the rest of the team’s meets, including this weekend’s Mt. SAC Invitational.
Gomez helped the Mustangs finish second to Corona del Mar in the Division IV sweepstakes race at Mt. San Antonio College with a team score of 48. The Sea Kings had 37 points.
In the boys’ Division III sweepstakes race, Sonora’s Heriberto Sarabia (15:37) and Fabian Ruelas (15:43) finished third and fourth to help the Raiders, ranked sixth in the division, finish fifth. Newport Harbor, ranked second in the division, finished third behind West Covina South Hills and Rosemead Don Bosco Tech.
