John Lynch

As the press deputy to former County Assessor John Lynch for three years, I feel obligated to comment on the erroneous impression that Lynch ever had a blanket policy forbidding his employees from talking to the news media (“Rivals Add Spice to Judicial Race,” April 10).
I wrote some less-than-clear press guidelines reminding workers that many of the assessor’s records could not be disclosed, as they were business secrets. Because it was confusing, I amended that policy to stress that workers could talk to anyone they pleased on their own time--and they did.
As for Lynch, he liked reporters, never turned down a request for an interview and strongly backed my efforts to provide reporters with any public information requested as fast as possible.
