A watchdog may be one of the best deterrents to a break-in, but some individuals would rather not deal with vet bills, obedience classes and false alarms. Now there is a high-tech solution: Rex, an electronic barking dog.
The $129 device was developed in 1994 by the Midlothian, Va.-based Comtrad Industries. “It’s an inexpensive crime deterrent that alerts home dwellers of prowlers and makes thieves think there’s a ferocious guard dog waiting,” explains Andy Bendheim, director of product development.
Rex can be plugged into any standard outlet, and at any indoor location where you want to detect movement, e.g., behind the front door. When he senses movement, Rex emits the fierce barking sounds of a large attack dog.
The closer the intruder gets, the louder and more frequent the barking becomes. As the intruder backs off, the barking lessens in intensity and frequency.
One of the best things about Rex is that he’s volume controlled. And, since he’s totally electronic, he never sleeps, eats or needs to be walked. He’s on duty around the clock. Call (800) 704-1211 for information.
