Handgun Sale Bans
he California Supreme Court upheld a city’s right to ban the sale of a class of handguns commonly known as Saturday night specials (Dec. 23).
The NRA lawsuit against this city ordinance is important for at least two reasons: The five legal issues used to attack this ordinance were found to be simply not applicable, and the NRA’s attorneys did not invoke the 2nd Amendment in challenging this local ordinance. Clearly this omission was not an oversight; but rather an acknowledgment that the 2nd Amendment is not a deterrent or threat to responsible guns laws affecting the private possession of firearms.
