Russian Woman First to Win Gold

Olga Danilova of Russia won the Games’ first gold medal with a victory in the women’s 15K cross-country classical style race.
Danilova, 27, currently eighth in the World Cup standings, finished in 46 minutes 55.4 seconds, more than five seconds ahead of compatriot Larissa Lazutina, who clocked 47:01.0 after leading for two-thirds of the race.
Norway’s Anita Moen-Guidon finished more than 50 seconds later to take the bronze medal.
