Storm Closes Coastal Parks, Campgrounds

State parks officials announced Thursday that several coastal parks and campgrounds will remain closed because of storm-related damage.
John Falk, supervising ranger for state parks in the Malibu area, said El Pescador and La Piedra state beaches and Staircase Beach at Leo Carrillo State Beach are closed because of washed-out trails.
Leo Carrillo North Beach campground is badly eroded and may take six months or longer to repair, Falk said. It will be closed until further notice.
At Point Mugu State Park, all campgrounds and day-use areas except Sycamore Cove are closed because a broken water line has left the park without water, Falk said.
Leo Carrillo Canyon Campground, which has been closed several times this month because of flooding, will reopen today.
Falk said beach visitors should check for signs announcing beach closures because of sewage spills and be aware of the hazards of erosion.
