Tree Recycling Sites Will Close Soon

Los Angeles residents who wish to get rid of their dry Christmas trees will have a final chance to recycle them this weekend before the city’s recycling sites close for another year.

The city has provided 12 drop-off sites where the trees will be turned into mulch.

The four Valley sites, open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, are:

* Branford Park, 13300 Branford St., Arleta.

* Sunland Park, 8651 Foothill Blvd.

* Balboa Sports Center, 17015 Burbank Blvd., Encino.

* Chatsworth Park South, 22360 Devonshire St.

People recycling trees at any of these centers will receive a coupon for a discount on admission to the Los Angeles Zoo and one free admission to several city cultural centers and museums.

Because the trees are a potential fire hazard, it is illegal to leave old Christmas trees on Los Angeles streets, officials said.

People who wish to discard their trees in their city-issued trash bins must cut the trees up so they fit in the green containers meant for yard clippings.
