Shotgun Blast From Passing Car Injures Boy

A 13-year-old boy walking home early Tuesday was wounded by a shotgun blast from a passing car, police said.
The teen, whose name was not released because of his age, had left a relative’s home and was in the 700 block of West La Jolla Street about 1 a.m. when he saw a car pass, heard a loud noise and then felt a pain in his thigh, Placentia police spokeswoman Corinne Loomis said.
The youth was taken to UCI Medical Center for treatment of the wound, which is not life-threatening, Loomis said.
Someone else in the neighborhood reported seeing a gray or dark-colored Nissan or Toyota, but investigators are unsure if it was the one involved in the shooting.
Police also are trying to determine if the shooting was gang-related or if the boy was an unintended victim struck by a stray shot, Loomis said.
