A daylong Fourth of July celebration at Cal State Northridge’s North Campus on Saturday will culminate in a 25-minute fireworks display.
“It’s going to be a fabulous show,” said Gene Taylor, a pyrotechnics expert with San Diego-based Fireworks America, which is presenting the display. “We have lots of new effects, such as shells that break into single and double rings, and butterfly patterns.”
The fireworks will be the grand finale to a day dubbed “Valley of the Stars & Stripes Fireworks Spectacular” and hosted by the Chatsworth, Granada Hills and Northridge chambers of commerce.
The event will include a live band, skydivers, game booths, carnival rides and a classic car show, said Sherry Linsley, a spokeswoman for the Chatsworth chamber.
“You can stake out a seat and pretty much have a good time all day long,” she said.
Gates will open at 2 p.m. at the North Campus area, at Devonshire Street and Lindley Avenue.
The fireworks display is to begin at 9 p.m.
Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and children 11 and under. Parking is free before 4 p.m. and $3 after that.
