CAMARILLO — A two-mile traffic backup occurred Wednesday night on the southbound Ventura Freeway when a sedan and a semitruck collided, police and firefighters said.
The sedan’s driver, Evelyn Richardson, 51, of Thousand Oaks, suffered minor injuries in the crash, which occurred about 7:20 p.m. south of Camarillo Springs Road on the Conejo Grade, Ventura County Fire Capt. Jack Nosco said.
Richardson was taken by ambulance to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks after firefighters freed her from her crushed car, Nosco said. She was being treated in the emergency room Wednesday night.
The collision with the truck caused Richardson’s car to overturn, blocking the middle of the four-lane roadway, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The truck driver was uninjured, and his rig was parked at the side of the roadway when police arrived. Both vehicles had been traveling southbound, the CHP said.
“The car was pretty much wrapped around” Richardson, Ventura County Fire Capt. Cruz Garcia said.
Two of the freeway’s four lanes were blocked for about an hour. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
