A local ocean preservation group is recruiting volunteers for its annual dolphin count Saturday.
During this year’s “Day of the Dolphin,” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., volunteers will count and record the activity of bottlenose dolphins at 22 beach locations.
“We are trying to verify the continued presence and well-being of the inshore bottlenose dolphin population in Orange County,” program director Jack Kidwell said.
Organizers of the event, sponsored by the Orange County chapter of the American Cetacean Society, said they will train people to be dolphin spotters.
