A woman was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years to life in prison and her boyfriend was given 15 years to life for the starving death of the woman’s 3-year-old son.
Norwalk Superior Court Judge Dewey L. Falcone sentenced Edith Agundez Arce, 20, and her boyfriend, Rene Gildardo Urbano, 24, and denied defense motions for a new trial and reduction of charges.
A jury convicted the couple in March--Arce of first-degree murder and Urbano of second-degree murder--in the death of Jose Cervantes, Arce’s son from a previous relationship, Deputy Dist. Atty. Dinko Bozanich said.
Authorities found Cervantes, emaciated and near death, at the couple’s apartment in August 1996 following a 911 call. The boy died shortly afterward.
