Newport Harbor Setter Nelson Out for Season

Newport Harbor, the top-ranked boys’ volleyball team in Orange County and the Southern Section, will be short-handed for the rest of the season after setter Travis Nelson underwent surgery for a broken finger and torn ligaments Tuesday.
Nelson broke his left middle finger in two places April 28 during a five-game victory over Santa Margarita. Newport Harbor Coach Dan Glenn said Nelson will be out six weeks.
“We’re a little shell-shocked right now,” Glenn said. “We’ve lost one of the best players in the county, someone who’s been our MVP and our setter for three seasons.”
Junior Ty Tramblie took over for Nelson and has led Newport Harbor to consecutive three-game victories over El Toro and Irvine.
