More than 200 student leaders are expected to attend the annual Harbor Area Leadership Conference at Stephen White Middle School today to share ideas and address issues of interest to the student community.
The event will bring together children from elementary and middle schools in Carson, Gardena and Harbor Gateway. More than 150 students participated in last year’s event. City officials and school administrators plan to address problems facing the youths of today and possible solutions. Topics to be discussed include how leadership can help students stay away from gangs and drugs and prevent them from dropping out of school and getting pregnant.
Students and administrators will also address multiculturalism and the kinds of activities that could be created to promote cultural awareness at the schools.
