Residents and city officials held a dedication ceremony at a Watts housing project Thursday to celebrate the success of a newly completed computer learning center.
The center at the Imperial Courts projects was hailed as a place where people who cannot afford personal computers will have access to modern technology and the information superhighway.
“The center is a great assist to our community,” said Dewayne Holmes, a Watts community leader. “Our residents have been ill-prepared for the future in terms of what they need to compete in this computerized world. It’s also a good place for parents to do some hands on learning with their kids.”
City officials said the center will help residents in their employment efforts.
“This center will aid residents’ transition into a workplace setting,” said Don Smith, director of the Housing Authority of the city of Los Angeles.
