* First Hawaiian Inc. is in talks to merge with the California unit of France’s Banque Nationale de Paris in a transaction valued at about $1 billion, two people familiar with the negotiations told Bloomberg News. BNP, France’s third-largest bank, would merge its Bank of the West unit with Honolulu-based First Hawaiian and control 40% to 50% of the combined bank, the sources said.
* Roy, Utah-based Iomega Corp. Chief Financial Officer Leonard Purkis resigned, making him the second senior executive this year to leave the troubled maker of removable computer disk drives. Purkis said he will become chief financial officer of Palo Alto-based E-Trade Group Inc., an online discount brokerage firm.
* San Diego-based Qualcomm Inc., a maker of wireless phone equipment, said it plans to combine some of its investments in wireless companies into one unit and spin it off to shareholders.
