Insurers Give to Campaign of Quackenbush’s Wife

Last week, the spokesman for state Insurance Commissioner Chuck Quackenbush’s reelection effort said the incumbent had not accepted any insurance company campaign contributions in the last 18 months.
But contribution filings by Quackenbush’s wife, Chris, seeking the Republican nomination for a state Senate seat in Sacramento, show that she has accepted $21,200 in contributions from insurance companies in her race.
Asked about this, Jonathan Wilcox, the spokesman for the insurance commissioner’s campaign, said: “The two committees are totally separate. Chuck hasn’t prevailed upon anybody to contribute to his wife’s campaign. They are two totally separate entities.”
In his earlier campaigns for insurance commissioner and for ballot propositions that he sponsored, Quackenbush reported receiving a total of $6 million in insurance industry donations.
