U.S. Assailed Over Taiwan and Tibet

China lashed out fiercely at the United States over a meeting between President Clinton and the Tibetan Dalai Lama, as well as a visit to Taiwan by a U.S. Cabinet secretary. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said Beijing lodged a protest with Washington and demanded that the United States correct its “mistakes.” The ministry spokesman did not specify what remedies China expects from Washington, but he accused the U.S. of interfering in China’s internal affairs.
