Several streets will have their names changed to promote The Block, the new mega-shopping mall off The City Drive set to open Thursday. But pharmaceutical giant Bergen Brunswick Corp. balked at the idea of changing hundreds of licenses across the country that carry its Metropolitan Drive address.
Washington-based Mills Corp., which owns the mall, was equally adamant that the street needed to be called The Block Drive so the mall could get good freeway signage.
A deal was struck this week that pleased both parties but may leave drivers a little dizzy: The street will carry both names, with two signs.
City Council members also voted unanimously to change City Parkway East to Entertainment Avenue. Justice Center Way becomes Shoppertainment Way.
