Hunau, Chu Continue Simi Tennis Streak

Rebecca Hunau and Stella Chu swept three opponents in a juggled lineup to help Simi Valley High advance to the Southern Section Division I quarterfinals with a 10-8 girls’ tennis victory over Los Alamitos in a second-round match Saturday at Rancho Simi Community Park.
Hunau and Chu (63-0) usually play at No. 1 doubles for Simi Valley (18-4), but they were in the No. 3 slot to help the Pioneers match up better with seventh-seeded Los Alamitos (14-6).
At No. 2 singles was Simi Valley’s top player, Mindy Gondrez, who won two of three sets.

In other girls’ playoff tennis matches:
Newport Harbor 17, Camarillo 1--Lauren Gaona, ranked 66th in the girls’ 16’s division in Southern California by the U.S. Tennis Assn., defeated Jenny Meyer, 6-2, to give the Scorpions their only victory in a Division I second-round match at Newport Harbor.
Gaona’s two losses were by 6-2 scores, but Camarillo (14-6) did not win a game in six other singles sets. The No. 2 team of Jenny Underwood and Michelle Alvarez lost in a tie breaker, 7-6 (7-1) and doubles play was more competitive, as Scorpions took 29 games, but still lost all nine sets.
Calabasas 16, El Modena 2--Shervin Saedinia (49-2) blanked three opponents, 6-0, at No. 1 singles and the top-seeded Coyotes won a Division IV second round match at Calabasas.
Andrea Leewong (55-0), who has played doubles with three partners this season, swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, with Vanessa Everly.
Chaminade 12, Western 6--Teresa Galido surrendered only one game, and Kinsley Carnahan lost only two as each swept three singles sets to help the Eagles win a Division IV second-round match at the Northridge Tennis Club.
The No. 1 doubles team of Jessica Testwuide and Monica Alonso swept, 6-4, 6-1, 6-0 for the Eagles (14-4).
Hart 13, Cerritos 5--Jenny Munroe (34-0) swept at No. 1 singles and the Indians earned their 13th consecutive victory in a second-round Division II match at Cerritos (19-3).
The Indians (15-2) swept doubles play for the first time this season.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Calabasas def. Rosary, 15-4, 15-8, 15-7--Brooke Niles had seven of her 16 kills for the Coyotes in the second game of a Division III-AA quarterfinal victory at Troy High.
Carina Nusinov and Maryam Ahmadian each added nine kills for the second-seeded Coyotes (20-0).
Buena def. Claremont, 15-6, 15-8, 15-10--Krystal McFarland had 17 kills in 29 attempts and the Bulldogs won a Division I-A quarterfinal match at Buena.
Janee Richards had 15 service points for Buena (24-7), which will make its first semifinal appearance in school history Tuesday.
Notre Dame def. San Marino, 15-9, 15-6, 15-4--Sarah Braga had 11 of her 14 kills in the second and third games of a Division III-A quarterfinal victory at Notre Dame.
Stephanie Berger added 11 kills for Notre Dame (14-5).
Royal def. Santa Barbara, 15-6, 15-2, 15-11--The Highlanders had 20 blocks and 79 digs in a Division I-A quarterfinal victory at Royal.
Courtney Guerra had 21 kills and 15 digs for top-seeded Royal (29-4), which will play fourth-seeded Buena on Tuesday at a site to be determined.
