Chapman Can’t Stop St. Mary’s

Brandin Young set a school rushing record with 250 yards as St. Mary’s beat visiting Chapman, 27-10, Saturday for its second victory of the season.
Overall, the Gaels (2-8) racked up 355 total rushing yards. The previous single-game mark was set in 1973.
St. Mary’s jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter on Reed Mokler’s 34-yard field goal and quarterback Joe Lilley’s one-yard touchdown run.
The Gaels increased their lead to 17-3 late in the first half on Lilley’s seven-yard scoring pass to Gino Marini.
Chapman (3-6) got within seven in the third on Trent Frisina’s two-yard run, but St. Mary’s added a field goal and touchdown to seal the victory.
Rodney Freer kicked a 19-yard field goal in the second quarter for Chapman.
