Notre Dame Splits Two Games

Notre Dame High split a pair of low-scoring games on Wednesday in the West Coast Classic baseball tournament at San Jose.
Phil Polanco (6-0) pitched a two-hitter for the Knights, who defeated Union City James Logan, 2-0, in a first-round game at Santa Clara University.
Santa Ana Calvary Chapel defeated Notre Dame, 2-1, in the second round at Leland High. Brendan Ryan homered for the Knights (12-3).
Camarillo 9, Ventura 4--Geoff Buchanon had three hits, including two home runs, and Shane Miranda hit a two-run home run for the Scorpions (12-2) in the Channel League tournament at Camarillo.
Buchanon had three hits, including a run-scoring double. Miranda doubled and Justin Collins had three hits and three stolen bases.
Reliever Mike Lopez (1-0) allowed one hit in five scoreless innings.
Gary Peterson gave Ventura a 4-1 lead with a grand slam in the third.
Thousand Oaks 7, Moorpark 1--Johnny Smith had two hits, including a two-run home run, to help the Lancers win the Atascadero tournament.
Darrin Rolfe (1-0), making his first start, allowed three hits and struck out five in five innings.
Tracy Goebel of Thousand Oaks (9-4) was selected most valuable player.
Oxnard 7, Santa Barbara 5--Ernie Flores and Matt Adams each drove in two runs and the Yellowjackets (3-8) won a Channel League tournament game.
Channel Islands 8, Buena 4--Joe Walch struck out four in his fourth complete game for the Raiders (6-5) in a Channel League tournament victory at Channel Islands.
Oscar Castro and Eric Rodriguez each had two-run singles for Channel Islands (6-5).
Santa Clara 11, Kilpatrick 0--Terrance Dotsy and Chris Post combined on a two-hitter for the Saints (5-6) in a nonleague victory at Santa Clara.
Dotsy (1-0) allowed one hit in three innings with two strikeouts and no walks. Post struck out four and walked one.
Ruben Marin drove in three runs with three hits, including a run-scoring double.
SOFTBALL
Chaminade 3, Simi Valley 1--Maureen LeCocq hit a home run and freshman Christina Lupacchini pitched a four-hitter to help the Eagles (5-6-1) win a Righetti tournament consolation game at Hagerman Softball complex.
Simi Valley is 9-2.
VOLLEYBALL
Granada Hills def. Birmingham, 15-0, 15-0, 15-9--Mike Aleman had 17 kills and Phillip Pelletier had 29 assists for the Highlanders (6-1, 3-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference victory at Birmingham.
GOLF
Hart 382, Royal 436, Agoura 441--Freshman Brian Edick of Hart (20-1-1) shot an even-par 72 to edge teammate Ryan Wyman, a senior, by one stroke in a nonleague match at Camarillo Springs Golf Course.
Monroe 244, Kennedy 255--Glenn Wright of Monroe missed a short putt on the final hole to finish with at one-under-par 35 and in a City Section 3-A League match at Knollwood Country Club.
BOYS’ SWIMMING
Birmingham 125, Kennedy 35--Ryan Shipley won the 200- and the 500-yard freestyle, and Eli Kase won the 100 butterfly, the 200 medley and was part of two winning relay teams for the Patriots (3-0, 3-0) in a West Valley League victory at Birmingham.
