Interfaith Council to Begin Meetings

The Most Rev. Tod Brown, bishop of the Roman Catholic Church’s Diocese of Orange, will be guest speaker at the inaugural meeting of the Interfaith Council of South Orange County, a new organization to foster interfaith outreach in the community.
“We don’t have enough true interfaith activity in the county,” said Tom Thorkelson, a former Mormon bishop and board member of the new council. “The groups where people from different faiths come together to dialogue in the past have been primarily Christians of various denominations.”
The president of the new council board is the Rev. Edward Martin of the Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church. Rabbi Johanna Hershenson of Temple Beth El and Father Bruce Lavery of St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church are vice presidents.
The meeting will be held at 7:30 a.m. at the Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, 24451 Health Center Drive in Laguna Hills.
