Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona unveiled plans Monday to forge closer ties with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Carona announced at a news conference that the two departments will begin making their DNA databases compatible, a process that will probably take about two months. The move is part of a wider attempt to allow law enforcement officials to more easily share information and resources. “We know that there are suspects who move over state borders, but clearly they [also] move across county boundaries,” Carona said. The departments also are considering plans to share training programs, equipment, technology and even personnel in the future, Assistant Sheriff George Jaramillo said.
