LOS ANGELES — A gunman fired a single bullet into a black Mercedes-Benz containing Sacramento Kings forward Chris Webber and four other people early Wednesday near a Beverly Center fast-food restaurant, according to Los Angeles police.
The gunman fired from a moving car about 2:30 a.m., and the bullet struck the driver’s side door of the Mercedes, said LAPD spokeswoman Carol Evans.
Neither Webber, 26, nor any of the other occupants were injured.
Evans said investigators do not believe the National Basketball Assn. player was a target in the shooting.
Webber was a passenger in the car and did not own it, Evans said.
At the time of the shooting, the Mercedes was parked near a Fat Burger restaurant at San Vicente and La Cienega boulevards.
Webber and the others drove away from the scene and flagged down a police officer as the gunman’s car sped off.
Police have yet to determine a motive in the shooting.
