A Huntington Beach woman found unconscious over the weekend died two days later of an injury caused by a blunt instrument, an autopsy revealed Tuesday.
Bridgette Elizabeth Ballas, 29, was found about 6:30 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Huntington Street, apparently after being attacked as she walked home, police said.
Sgt. Janet Perez of the Huntington Beach Police Department said it is not known whether the victim was killed in the area or dumped there. Ballas did not live in the neighborhood, Perez said.
Ballas, who sold cosmetics from her home and lived alone, had been with friends in downtown Huntington Beach earlier that morning. She died late Monday at a hospital.
Investigators found few visible signs of injury on Ballas other than signs that she suffered severe trauma to the back of her head. Further details were being withheld during the investigation, police said.
Investigators asked Tuesday that anyone with information about the incident call the Huntington Beach Police Department at (714) 375-5066.
