Restrictions will be imposed on the Marina Drive bridge next month to reduce vibrations on nearby houses until the bridge can be rebuilt, Public Works Director Steve Badum said. The restrictions probably will include narrowing the bridge from four lanes to two and banning heavy trucks and buses. Also, weight will be added to the bridge so it doesn’t bounce as much, he said.
The city is working with Long Beach to demolish and rebuild the bridge within the next year or two; the $5-million project will be 90% funded by the state.
