An educational psychologist charged with illegally billing insurance companies for nonexistent medical treatments has pleaded guilty to two counts of grand theft, the state Department of Insurance said Monday.
Margaret Ferrin, 39, who worked out of her home in Huntington Beach, was placed on probation for 3 1/2 years and ordered to complete 400 hours of community service and pay $5,983 in restitution, the department said.
Investigators said she billed Blue Shield for 28 counseling sessions with the sons of a Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. employee, but the employee said he and his family met with Ferrin only twice.
