Macy’s Sets $100 Million in Construction

Times Staff and Wire Reports

Macy’s department store chain said it will spend $100 million in Southern California over the next three years to build new stores, including one in Westminster, and renovate others.

The 180,000-square-foot store at Westminster Mall will open in 2001 and employ 240 people. Another store will be built in Lakewood, and stores in Laguna Hills and Mission Viejo will be expanded and remodeled, Macy’s said.

The chain also said, however, that it was closing “underperforming” stores in Baldwin Hills and Westwood Village in Los Angeles.
