VERNON — Police seeking help in finding the suspects in the fatal shooting of a Brink’s security guard last week said Wednesday the getaway car is believed to be a brown Corolla or Celica with California license plate 888XMS.
Lt. Bob Faldetta said police tried to track down the car’s owner using DMV records, but the last registered owner sold the car in 1995. The license is an old-style blue and yellow plate.
Jaramillo Eleazar, 26, was killed Jan. 14 inside the JETRO Cash and Carry wholesale grocery store in the 2300 block of East 57th Street, near Alameda Street and Slauson Avenue.
While leaving the building at about 8:45 a.m., Eleazar was shot once in the back of the head by a gunman. The assailant then took what police are calling “a significant” amount of cash and checks from Eleazar and ran into the parking lot, where an accomplice was waiting. Both men, described by police as being in their early to mid-20s, fled in the car.
Faldetta asked that anyone with information about the suspects or the getaway car call the Vernon Police Department at (323) 587-5171.
Brink’s Inc. is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for the slaying.
