* Saturday, Mission Viejo. Borders Books is holding an American Girls slumber party for fans of the girls’ book series. Crafts, games and snacks taken from books in the series. 6:30 p.m. Free, but space is limited and reservations are required. 25222 El Paseo.
* Saturday, Santa Ana. The Bowers Kidseum presents storytellers from the South Coast Storytellers Guild relating legends and folk tales. 2 p.m. Admission, $6 adults, $2 children, includes admission to the museum. 802 North Main St. (714) 480-1520.
* Through February, countywide. The Orange County Public Library is holding a bookmark-design contest open to kindergartners through ninth graders. Four winners, one in each of four age groups, will be selected at each branch library, and the designs reproduced as bookmarks to be distributed during National Library Week. Entry blanks are available at branch libraries.
