Jacoba “Coby” Christine Haddox, retired co-owner of a Los Angeles Times delivery center in western Ventura County, died at her home in Ojai on June 25. She was 86.
She was born Jacoba Hartveld in Willoughby, Ohio, on Jan. 30, 1913. A year later, the family moved to Oxnard, where they were among the community’s early residents.
In 1936, she married Orie Haddox and the couple moved to Ojai. They owned and operated the delivery center for The Times in Ojai until they retired in 1972.
Gail Harwood, a friend for more than 40 years and a business associate, said the Haddoxes went on many trips together and that they worked hard, but played hard, too. Harwood was the owner of a Ventura delivery center for The Times.
Haddox was active in the Business and Professional Club of Ojai and had been the president at one time.
In addition to her husband of 63 years, Haddox is survived by son Raymond of Colma; two sisters, Christine Rice of Oxnard and Elizabeth Hartveld of Ojai; and two grandsons.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Charles Carroll Funeral Home in Ventura.
