Despite city staff’s recommendation to drop a traffic deputy position from the proposed 1999-2001 operating budget, the City Council on Tuesday suggested keeping the job, reasoning that a deputy’s presence can prevent accidents. The change would have involved promoting an administrative sergeant from part-time to full-time status. The council suggested that both positions be included in the budget, adding about $125,000.
