La Quinta has hired Guy Gardner as its football coach, Athletic Director Jim Perry said Thursday.
Gardner has been an assistant coach at his alma mater, Manhattan Beach Mira Costa, the last 10 years. He played quarterback for the Mustangs under Rich Egan, former football coach and current athletic director at Mira Costa.
“He’s a good coach who has had good training at Mira Costa,” Egan said. “He’s a hard worker, a great classroom teacher and works well with kids. He’ll get ‘em going.”
Gardner replaces Jeff Veeder, The Times Orange County coach of the year last season, who became head coach at Capistrano Valley.
