Cheers for 2 Young Men

I was very moved by “Cheers For a Long Shot” (May 8), about a college-bound athlete who lost his legs and an 11-year-old boy who wanted to help by raising money for artificial legs.
That the boy was able to recruit 20 Cal State Northridge fraternities and campus clubs to organize a fund-raiser that attracted Lakers and Clippers players says much positive and laudatory about some who have had much negative publicity at times.
The boy and the athlete are from different races, countries and probably religions, but that doesn’t matter to them or evidently to others involved in raising money for the needed prothesis. It’s a breath of fresh air in a time of bad news about young people.
What a feel-good story to arise from a terrible tragedy. I hope The Times will follow this remarkable pair of young men and report how they progress.
