Webb Tries to Snare Eagles

Capistrano Valley Christian has won six games in a row and is seeded third.
Yet, those accomplishments will mean little to Eagle Coach Keith Patefield if his team doesn’t advance past the first round of the playoffs. And Patefield concedes there’s one reason to think Capistrano Valley Christian could be ripe for an upset: The Eagles haven’t been tested during the second half of their season.
Capistrano Valley Christian outscored Academy League opponents 219-24 and hasn’t been challenged since a 14-0 victory over La Canada Flintridge Prep in Week 4. The Eagles meet Claremont Webb, the division’s only at-large qualifier, in the first round.
“Playing a better-quality team like Webb, we’re going to have to get our kids to focus,” Patefield said.
St. Margaret’s, which finished third in the Academy League, faces Prep League champion Brentwood in the first round.
