The Italian women’s water polo team defeated the United States, 10-8, in the final Group E second-round match at the World Women’s Olympic Qualification tournament in Palermo, Italy. Despite the loss, the United States advanced to a semifinal match today against Hungary. Italy, the 1998 world champion, will play Russia. Coralie Simmons scored three goals for the United States. Monica Vailant led Italy with five.
