Citizens Academy Applicants Wanted
Residents interested in seeing the inner workings of a law enforcement agency and of specialized units such as K-9 cops and SWAT teams are encouraged to attend an upcoming citizens academy.
The Ventura County sheriff’s station in Moorpark will host its annual Community Police Academy beginning Sept. 21. The course teaches residents about police work and encourages good neighborhood relationships.
Classes will run for nine weeks every Thursday, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The course will include an eight-hour ride-along with a deputy, and several field trips to the department’s other facilities.
Local residents 18 and older can apply by calling Deputy Julie Smith at 532-2707. There is no cost, but space is limited.
